Civic Makers Melbourne is a new community event, led by Code for Australia.

Around the world and in our own backyards, we've seen communities come together to hack for good and create something from nothing. While we admire these efforts, we know that real, sustainable change takes more than 48 hours, and that it takes a diversity of skills (not just coding and design) to create awesome things.

So we're making a space for people to come together, to better understand the challenges that face our city from multiple angles (government, not-for-profits and communities), and work on things to change the status quo.

Following on from our first two sessions which brought us together to talk about collective visions, values, and problem areas for the group, this time we'll be beginning to form teams around big ideas and start taking action!

The night will be a mix of facilitated activities, group time and downtime where you can chat with others, or stick by the nibbles.

This event is open for everyone who is interested in using their skills (whatever they may be - this is definitely not just for tech people) to achieve social good.

To check out what happened at the first few MeetUps - head over to the message board for our wrap ups and links to our working files. You can also access the public folder for the group here: bit.ly/Civic-Makers-MEL

To join in the conversation - join us on the Code for Australia Slack (#civic-makers channel): bit.ly/CfA-Slack

What the night will look like:

• 5:30pm - 5:45pm | Arrivals, hellos, people hiding by the food
• 5:45pm - 7:00pm | Working together + making plans
• 7:00pm - 7:30pm | Wrapping up + chatting to new friends + eating things

We try to keep it short and sweet - it is a Wednesday after all!

Like all Code for Australia events, we have a Code of Conduct which you can check out here: http://bit.ly/Code-Code

We'd love to see you there!

If you have any questions or considerations for us to know about your participation in this event, please email us and let us know. We want to make these events as inclusive and welcoming as possible for everyone.

We are so grateful to be holding these events on the lands of the Boonwurrung and Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin nation. We wish to pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging, and acknowledge that this beautiful land, which many of us now call home, was never ceded.
