This charming vintage tea shop and lounge is worth a detour if anywhere in the Sandgate region or as a whistle stop on the tourist route to Redcliffe. Nestled in a tiny pocket of 1960s shops, Eclectea occupies the old general store on the corner, with two rooms filled with a fabulous array of retro home wares, collectables and fashion and a small delicious array of sweet treats and perfectly brewed tea and coffee on the menu.
Amongst all the rummage-worthy goods for sale the main shop lounge has plenty of space to spread out – nestle in to the window lounge sets, gather at the formica dining tables or catch a bay breeze under the awnings at the quaint mish mash of outdoor vintage tables and chairs. For those with children in tow, it's a great place for mother's groups and for dog owners, there's a dedicated water bowl and tie-up spot outside.
Regardless of whether there to collect, browse or hang out, owner Geri, who has built on her own personal collection of wares, has created a magic funky nana ambience with crochet cushions, laceworks, lamps, vintage luggage, beach umbrellas, evening bags, kitchen and colored glass table wares, although the star piece – the perfectly preserved 1950's kitchen dresser is not for sale.
Tea (from Byron Bay & Nimbin) is the real deal loose leaf, served in character teapots and with a choice including English Rose, chili chai, and gourmet English grey for every day and refreshing green tea based and soothing herbal blends. Coffee hails from local boutique roaster Neli Coffee and both go down a treat with the home-baked goodies such as zucchini and white chocolate blondies, chocolate cake and caramel tartelettas.
