This month's selection is The Forever War (1974) by Joe Haldeman.
Plot summary (from Amazon): The Earth's leaders have drawn a line in the interstellar sand--despite the fact that the fierce alien enemy they would oppose is inscrutable, unconquerable, and very far away. A reluctant conscript drafted into an elite Military unit, Private William Mandella has been propelled through space and time to fight in the distant thousand-year conflict; to perform his duties and do whatever it takes to survive the ordeal and return home. But "home" may be even more terrifying than battle, because, thanks to the time dilation caused by space travel, Mandella is aging months while the Earth he left behind is aging centuries...
Our location: We meet at Mystic Celt, a place that serves food and drink. This is an experimental new location, we will see if we like it! We will probably be in the back room.
Future book selection: ideas are welcome. Criteria for books: has a science fiction theme, is from the 19th or 20th Century, and preferably under 500 pages (for us busy, slower readers).
Please be respectful of the group and your humble organizer by keeping RSVPs up-to-date. No-shows are no fun, so please don't be one, if you can help it. If you have two no-shows, you will be removed from the group.
