What we're about

A very warm welcome to you!

We look forward to meet and to have you as part of our group.

Tai Chi Chuan for health, martial arts and spiritual development.
This is an introduction to Classical Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan. You will learn the medium frame form, with the opportunity to advance to a more enriched program.

We are affiliated with the H. Won Tai Chi Chuan Association of New York City, directed by Sifu H. Won Gim. The Classical Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan is a complete system of Tai Chi as handed down and taught to successive Yang family descendants and official disciples of the art. The system includes the slow form, fast from, staff and sword forms, chi kung, nei kung, internal strength/power training.

Benefits from practicing this Tai Chi are: health, stress management, internal power/strength and spiritual development.

ON CHOOSING A TAI CHI SCHOOL / TEACHER

In this city there are many Tai Chi schools and there are also many criteria and reasons for choosing a Tai Chi school or teacher.

One criteria you may want to factor into the decision making process is the lineage. This is the knowledge transmission of the art of Tai Chi
from it's original founder of the system through the descending generations of students to finally the Sifu or teacher your are considering.
In general, the comprehensive curriculum and the essence of the art is passed down the descending family generations.
This is ususlly from father to son or to designated official disciples.

Using Sifu Gim as an example to map an abbreviate lineage; we can begin from the founder of the Yang family Tai Chi Chuan.
This was Yang Luchan, he lived 1799 to 1872 and was a famous martial artist in China.
Yang Chenfu (1883 -1936) was the grand son of the founder, Yang Luchan. He was also a notable martial artist. Chenfu travelled extensively thooughout China, promoting Yang Family Tai Chi and as a result, Yang Family style Tai Chi is the
most popular Tai Chi pratcised in the world.

Yang Sau Chung (1910 - 1985) was the eldest son of Yang Chenfu. He had 3 disciples, one of whom is Chu Gin Soon who lives in Boston, USA.

Chu Gin Soon has 2 sons who now runs and teaches in the school in Boston.
He also has 2 official disciples, the second disciple is Sifu Gim of New York City

As mentioned earlier one may have many different reasons for choosing a Tai Chi school or teacher.
However, if you are looking for an enriched program, a program that has the martial arts training intact,
the special chi kung techniques(meditation and energy training) then you may want to look at the lineage and ability of the teacher

Even if you are not interested in the martial art aspect of Tai Chi, the power training via the special training techniques and chi kung will strengthen your body and
invigorate your health. And because Tai Chi is primarily an energy based practice, the form, chi kung and meditative practices will greatly assist in your spiritual development as well.

In closing, below is a link to a short video clip of Sifu Gim demonstrating power push hands. This was in May 2015 at the New Kennedy Square in Markham,
Ontario. The power push hands is often misunderstood as to what it is and its function. This misunderstanding occurs among the layperson and even among other schools of Tai Chi Chuan It is not a martial art application, rather it is a training method
The training benifit is more for the the person getting pushed, not the pusher.
