The Miracle Match Marathon Weekend
Saturday, January 21st: 5K, 1 mile and Miracle Match KIDS, Fire Truck Pull
Sunday, January 22nd: Marathon, 1/2 Marathon, 10K, Marathon Relay, Ultra Marathon
Back before there were Gu Gels and Dri-Fit underwear, Waco Firefighter C.W. Whorton ran marathons. Then one he got the idea to host a marathon in Waco. Who knew where it would lead??
Wharton finally got the ball rolling in 2004 along with fellow firefighters Wade Durbin and Joe Singer and named the Scott & White Marrow Donor Program as the race’s beneficiary. Thus, the “Miracle Match” Marathon was born. Get it? Matching donors and recipients? We’re not a dating service, despite our name… although you never know who you might meet at mile 18.
Today the Waco FD continues to support the Marrow Donor Program. And through its Be the Match Registry FOUR of Waco’s own have actually donated to patients in need of this lifesaving treatment. Come on guys, its not enough that you pull people from burning buildings for a living? This is really gonna make the rest of us look bad…
But enough about them. How about the race??
The Miracle Match Marathon has found its niche as “The Toughest in Texas; No Bull”. We’ve got hills. We’ve got a race distance for everyone and every level. We’ve got more hills. We’ve got finisher jackets for the Full and technicals for the Half. Oh yes, and we’ve got a few more hills. Texas-sized medals hand cut by a Waco Fire Fighter who donated stem cells and saved the life of a complete stranger through Be the Match, our cause. And best of all we’ve got tough firefighters from all over this great state running in their turnout gear. And by the way… did we mention the hills??
Oh, and we almost forgot to mention FREE margaritas, beer, wine, fajitas and live music at the finish. Not one beer ticket like other races. Nope, we offer you a Texas size party for your Texas size finish. Plus the Texas size Bragging Rights. That’s just a bonus-
What we DON’T have is big city prices or big city race crowds…
AND IT’S ALL ABOUT SAVING LIVES!!
A picture’s worth a thousand words, but after 26.2 miles of hills, some can’t be said in public… Wait till you see yours with PhotoWolfe Sports Photography!

The beauty of a small race (how many times can we say that??) is that you may also pick up your packets race morning starting at 6:00 a.m.. You can even register your date or your Great Aunt Tilly on race day if the race has not closed.
At all race packet pickups, you will be required to initial a form confirming your personal information upon receiving your packet. Please take this well; we want to be sure you are who you are and do not end up a 12 year old female when in fact you can recall attending an AC/DC concert as a 47 year old male. This silly little procedure will make our awards distribution go soooo much smoother. Thank you for your cooperation!
In any case, arrive early if you plan to do these housekeeping activities on Race Day... We get a little stressed out.
