Announcing a new Meetup for Climb On!

What: TENTATIVE: Post-Thanksgiving climbing at New Jack City near Barstow (SoCal)

When: Friday, November 26,[masked]:00 AM

Where: New Jack City
(20 minutes south of Barstow, CA) (I'll explain the directions later)
Barstow, CA 92311

Post-Thanksgiving climbing (possibly camping) at New Jack City down in southern CA.

I am just wondering if anyone is going to be down south (or wants to head down there) and wants to do some climbing New Jack City (near Barstow) after Thanksgiving. (Fri or Sat or both?)

New Jack City is an incredible place to climb. (My favorite) It is about 20mins south of Barstow. (About 7hr drive from Berkeley/Oakland). It is a popular place to climb but a little less known of.

NJC, About the climbing:
-Sport climbing
-on metamorphic basalt rock
-The climbs range from 5.6 to 5.13.
-most routes require a lead climber (I would contact a few of my San Diego pals to see if they would want to join us who are lead climbers)
-approach: varies from crag to crag anywhere from 1 minute to 20 minutes :)

The area/camping:
NJC is on BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land which means you can pretty much do whatever you want there. Seriously! It is also a designated off road use area and is frequented by motorcyclists.
-This is a high desert area
-Parking/camping = free, no reservations needed, just drive up and find a spot, big bon fires ok too
-It also means that there are no facilities i.e. no shower, no water. There is a outhouse a bit of a walk from the climbing walls. So bring all needed water with you
-Barstow is only about 20 minutes away with restaurants and hotels for those so inclined
Also, the Red Rocks climbing area and Vegas are only a couple more hours further east.

Anyone interested??? I am totally open to different dates and plans. I am heading down to San Diego to visit some friends anyway. Either way, have a great Thanksgiving!!
