What we're about
Upcoming events (3)
Hi all The next stage of the Dodo walk (from Dover to Dorking) will be on Saturday 23 February. This stage is from Hawkinge to Westenhanger. It goes through the hilly countryside which is typical of the North Downs. There are some excellent and very varied views. We will go through some very quiet and deserted places starting with the challenge of finding the right way out of a cemetery (the only way is up!) You should expect stiles and bring a packed lunch. The walk is about 10 miles with no drop-out points. There is a pub at the end next to the station. Take the 8.33am train from Victoria to Folkestone Central arriving at 10.21am. This train calls at Bromley South. Alternatively take the 9.09am High Speed train from St Pancras and change at Ashford for Folkestone. This train calls at Stratford International. Buy a return to Folkestone Central. We get a connecting bus from Folkestone to Hawkinge (bus 16 or 73, every 10 mins, takes 15 mins, fare £3.20, cash or Contactless accepted). Return trains to Victoria are hourly at 19 mins past the hour (change at Ashford for High Speed trains to St Pancras) and there's a pub near the station. Bob Important - please read! Do check our website (https://www.clog.org.uk/) in case of updates to this event. NB Only small selection of our events are on Meetup but they are all on on the web calendar, so this is another reason to check. • Meetup followers (and other prospective CLOG members) can come on up to 3 events to try us out but after that you need tojoin CLOG (https://membermojo.co.uk/clog) to continue with us. • Don't forget to follow us on social media: Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/CentralLondonOutdoorGroup/)Twitter (https://twitter.com/Clogtweets)Flickr (https://www.flickr.com/photos/clogpics/albums/) • Most attendees are members of CLOG and not on Meetup, so RSVPs do not indicate the total numbers expected.
Check out our amazing website (http://www.clog.org.uk/) We have usually have around 20 or more outdoor adventure trips away - walking, cycling, canoeing, kayaking, champing - each year, both in the UK and abroad. Upcoming trips (http://www.clog.org.uk/p/trip.html) in next 60 days Plans for cycling adventures abroad in 2018 (http://www.clog.org.uk/p/cycl.html) CLOG trips are non-commercial and are run at cost or occasionally subsidised. This makes them incredibly cheap compared with holiday companies but you normally have to be a member to get a place on a trip. NB Trip organisers are all (unpaid) volunteers and members of the group. https://youtu.be/RHnf5be86IA How to book on trips? Booking instructions are in the relevant trip e-mail sent to clog members. Followers of CLOG on Meetup and other non-members can apply to come on a trip by emailing the Trips Team but they would normally have to join CLOG to come on the trip. Full details of these and other events are on our events calendar (http://www.clog.org.uk/p/events-calendar.html) You normally have to be a member to come on a trip away but non-members can come on up to three non-trip events to try out the group before joining. You can normally just turn up on non-trip events such as day walks and cycle rides.
Wherever there are good places for walking, cycling etc
Central London Outdoor Group (https://www.clog.org.uk) is not like any other Meetup Group! We don't charge for walks, cycle rides etc (own bike needed unless otherwise stated) and you are welcome to attend three events for free to try out the club. After that you have to become a member of CLOG if you wish to continue but our annual membership (https://membermojo.co.uk/clog) fee is only £15 for new members. Interested in walking, cycling, hillwalking, kayaking, adventure travel, trips away, outdoor adventures, exploring the countryside, great outdoors, mountains and coast, while making new friends? Want to join a real outdoor activities club run for and by members (ie no paid organisers) rather than a commercial or semi-commercial outfit? Prefer to be with a group with people who come regularly or semi-regularly so you can make new friends rather than a group with 20,000 members so you never see the same people twice? Dislike walking or cycling in huge swarms of people? Some Meetup group outdoor events have 40+ people but not us! Then Central London Outdoor Group (CLOG) may be the group for you! People of any age are welcome to join CLOG - the majority of our current members are in their 40s and 50s. CLOG (https://www.clog.org.uk/) is all about about walking, cycling, hillwalking, exploring our countryside and other outdoor adventures and making new friends. Our walks, cycle rides, trips away and other outdoor adventures are run by our members for our members and are all on our website events calendar (https://www.clog.org.uk/p/events-calendar.html) and the Hotline (https://www.clog.org.uk/p/hotline-events.html?m=1). Our membership (https://membermojo.co.uk/clog) fee for one year is £15 for new members. This pays for our basic running costs plus subsidising some events where there are external costs. We are not-for-profit and our events are led by members on an unpaid/voluntary basis, so everything is ploughed back into the group. We have around 20 or more trips away (https://www.clog.org.uk/p/trip.html) each year for weekends and longer holidays in the UK and abroad. These are run at cost (to pay for food and accommodation) or sometimes subsidised. You normally need to be a member to come on a trip. https://youtu.be/r2xvMq-hsNg Walking, hillwalking and cycling are our main activities but we also offer opportunities to try out other outdoor pursuits such as canoeing, sea kayaking, sailing, champing, orienteering and beachcombing. Our Meetup page only shows a selection of our events. A full list can found on our website (https://www.clog.org.uk/). It is also useful (but not essential) to give the website a good read before turning up to any of our events. If you like what you see there, please do sign our visitors book (https://www.clog.org.uk/p/visitors-book.html). Finally, don't forget you can like us on our Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/CentralLondonOutdoorGroup/) page and follow on Twitter (https://twitter.com/Clogtweets). Photos from recent trips can be found on our Flickr (https://www.flickr.com/photos/clogpics/albums) page. Also if you have been to any of our events and enjoyed it, please consider leaving a review on this site as well. NB CLOG is non-commercial and events are organised by members of the club on a voluntary basis. All participants should make themselves aware of the risks inherent in walking, cycling and other outdoor activities and take responsibility for their own actions and choices of activity.
