AI in Hollywood and Mass Media

Phase Two

This is hosted by Join.AI The AI LA Community is proud to present February's Third Thursday Tech Talk focused on AI's impact on entertainment and media. How will artificial intelligence affect pre-production, content creation, content consumption, and user experiences? We will ground our conversations with what is possible today, using real world examples. We will then explore how AI will be used more frequently as a tool in the creative and planning process. How can data be used to make more informed decisions instead of relying on your gut? We will also dive into more philosophical perspectives, such as how AI will open up new possibilities for reactive narratives, instead of today's branching narrative paradigm found in shows like Netflix's Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. Come out with an open mind and your questions. Speakers: Yves Bergquist - Director, AI & Neuroscience in Media Project, Entertainment Technology Center @ USC Lindy Rauchenstein is a Machine Learning Engineer at Artie, where she helps develop the WonderfriendTM engine, enabling content creators to bring the world's most advanced intelligent avatars to life in mobile AR. She specializes in using facial emotion recognition and object detection to enable avatar-to-consumer interactions that are life-like and highly engaging. Artie's avatars are able to be shared as standard hyperlinks, making discovery easy on social media and content platforms. Lindy began working on world-aware machine learning sensor systems in 2015 as a researcher at Battelle, where her team's environmental monitoring work earned recognition as an R&D 500 award finalist. She has previously worked as a data scientist and machine learning engineer on projects with Lockheed Martin, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, USAID, the National University of Laos, and as the Chief Data Officer for MARE, a deep ocean exploration nonprofit.
