App Modernization is a spectrum. Modernization can mean different things to different people. To some it means migration of VMs from private cloud to public cloud. To some it means containerization of existing workloads with minimal changes. To some it means refactoring apps to be 12 factor cloud native. In this session I will provide actionable strategies for porting enterprise java workloads to containers in the cloud with zero code changes. We will explore techniques ranging from buildpacks, to build plugins and other tools like kpack to determine the scope and the implementation of changes necessary to package and deploy a java application for Kubernetes. The audience will come away with a list of techniques to modernize all kinds of apps including legacy monolithic Java applications and modern applications to Kubernetes.
