We will be having two talks this evening, Jeroen Soeters & Jay Smith.

Jeroen is a senior software engineer for Instana where he works on most parts of the stack. Jeroen is also a former ThoughtWorker, functional programming aficionado, long-time DDD practitioner, Dutchman and has a keen interest for neuroevolutionary systems. Fun fact: he will rarely say no if you offer him proper Belgian beer.

Microservice architectures and containerization are very convenient for development, but operating those new IT system becomes harder. Netflix stated: ”humans cannot monitor out systems anymore”. We perform realtime processing of ridiculous large amounts of metric, event and trace data. In this talk, I will be giving a technical peek behind the scenes on how we collect, process and present monitoring data efficiently through our reactive Java 8 based stream processing engine. I will also cover how we optimized our usage of Elasticsearch, Cassandra and Kafka on Amazon EC2 to make this possible.

Jay is the CMO at Factom where he wears many hats. He has built, organized, and managed multi-continent teams to deliver complex systems.

Blockchain Technology - Beyond the coins. Discussing what blockchain means, why you should care about it and some use cases for it. Jay will also discuss the security and economics around blockchain!
