Using Infrastructure as Code to accelerate Enterprise DevOps adoption

Abstract
========
Most of the companies Capstone works with have a significant amount of legacy application infrastructure. One of the inhibitors that we often see regarding getting started in earnest with the adoption and exploitation of DevOps methods and new technologies in legacy app refactoring is: “There are so many pieces I have to build skill with, it’s just hard to get started.”

This talk will focus on an approach to overcome that problem. We will present a significant set of automations founded on Infrastructure-as-Code concepts. The automations demonstrate the ease and speed of standing up: a complete application runtime exploiting both AWS and Azure, a CI/CD pipeline, a container service (based on Docker EE, orchestrated by Kubernetes) and a complex, monitored application instance. Note that while this demo uses cloud IaaS, it is equally applicable to cloud or on-premise virtualized VMware environments, or on-premise bare-metal environments.

John Dinger has worked in the IT industry for more than 30 years, building applications, system and network management solutions, and networking implementations. My teams have created and delivered products and solutions for Telecommunications and Enterprise clients. My focus most recently has been solution transformation from traditional, on-premise application architectures, to containerized, cloud/hybrid technologies and architectures.

Mark Borchardt has more than 10 years of pre- and post-sales experience focusing on digital transformation, robotic and business process automation, containerization, and cloud migrations to Azure and AWS. My current focus is on working with business to identify legacy applications and moving them to a modern, containerized, cloud/hybrid architecture.
