- Cloud Foundry as a PaaS, CaaS and FaaS
Three amazing speakers covering the following topics: Cloud Foundry as a PaaS, CaaS and FaaS - Amith Nambiar, Senior Solution Architect, ANZ, Pivotal The evolution in architectural patterns has led to Microservices based architectures, which in turn has helped enterprises decompose applications into independently deployable services. Platforms have also evolved to support different abstractions and usage patterns including, Platform as a Service (PaaS), Container as a Service (CaaS) and Function as a Service (FaaS)/Serverless . In this session see how Cloud Foundry helps enterprise run multiple abstractions with one underlying piece of technology. We’ll look at an application running on PaaS, CaaS and FaaS and how it all fits together along with an Open Source Function as a Service called - riff (https://projectriff.io/) which is based on Knative (https://github.com/knative/) for running Serverless workloads. Git what? GitOps! Supporting GitOps with Serverless – James McAffee and David Lloyd, Application Platform Architects, VMware Automate or die! It's pretty dramatic but if you are not using automation of some type to deploy applications then you are probably well behind your competitors. The thing is, automation isn't just limited to deployment of applications it goes much further. In this session we will discuss the use cases for serverless to automate IT infrastructure. We’ll conduct a live demonstration of GitOps using the Dispatch serverless framework to automate infrastructure provisioning and life-cycling. Registration will open from 5.30pm with food and refreshments available, with the evening concluding around 7:45pm. We look forward to seeing you there!

- Cloud Native Java, Part Deux
We are extremely excited to have world-renowned Spring Developer Advocate, Java Champion, author and open source contributor, Josh Long visit Melbourne. As part of his trip, we have an exclusive session where he will speak on Cloud Native, Part Deux. We promise you a great night of fun-filled coding and testing. ABSTRACT In this talk, join Spring Developer Advocate Josh Long (@starbuxman) as he looks at Spring Cloud.next to support modern microservices development, focusing on the things that really matter (or, at least, the things Spring got cooking in Spring Boot 2.0 and Spring Cloud Finchley): - Functions-as-a-service with Spring Cloud Function. We've got FUNCTIONS (wrapped in apps, in containers, running on servers, in datacenters) - Functional reactive REST endpoints (totally different meaning for "function" here, though) - Reactive programming with Spring Framework 5. Leverage flow control at every layer and make the most efficient use of every CPU when doing input/output. You're going to need every bit of efficiency that you can get after you've installed the patches for Spectre and Meltdown! - Kotlin. Yes, KOTLIN: you wanted Java and I'm giving it to you.. in libraries that I'll use from Kotlin. - Messaging with Apache Kafka. Nothing funny here. It's just awesome. - Live on the edge with the new, reactive, rate-limiting, proxying, websocket-aware Spring Cloud Gateway - ASCII art! PROGRAMME 5.45pm - 6.00pm Registration 6.00pm - 7.00pm Cloud Native Java, Part Deux ABOUT JOSH LONG Josh (@starbuxman) is the Spring Developer Advocate at Pivotal. Josh is a Java Champion, author of 5 books (including O'Reilly's Cloud Native Java: Designing Resilient Systems with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and Cloud Foundry) and numerous best-selling video trainings (including Building Microservices with Spring Boot Livelessons with Spring Boot co-founder Phil Webb), and an open-source contributor (Spring Boot, Spring Integration, Spring Cloud, Activiti and Vaadin). - April Extravaganza
With our powers combined with the local Docker Meetup, we'll be bringing you a Cloud Native Demo-Extravaganza of sessions Session 1 with James McAfee, the Cloud Native & Open Source Lead for Australia & NZ for VMware will share with us a for a live demonstration on Project Harbor, an Open Source, enterprise-class container registry. This session will cover private container registry services ranging from small scale uses cases to large enterprise consumption. Functional items considered will be container notary services, identity and management, image replication, and vulnerability scanning.
- Cloud Native Meetup 2.0 (Melbourne Edition)
It's been a couple of months since our last meetup and this time around we're going to be in Melbourne. Yes, Melbourne everyone! So, make sure you join the group and RSVP. Food and refreshments provided so please make sure you RSVP!!! This time around we have: Pas Apicella - Platform Architect @ Pivotal Zero to Data Bound Application on Pivotal Cloud Foundry in 7 Minutes See how Spring Boot supports Rapid Application Development and its role in Cloud Native Applications. We're going to build a live application using Spring Boot with IntelliJ IDEA and push it to the Cloud without having to configure a single VM. We'll also have a look at Pivotal Cloud Foundry and how a deployment platform supports all aspects of container management and gives the Developer the control they need. Ben Farrelly - Manager,Solution Integrity – Digital @ NAB Tonka trucks to Lego Bricks Learn about the digital transformation journey the National Australia Bank is going through and find out how they have done this using Node and other technologies.
- Pivotal | Google Cloud - Cloud Native Roadshow
Hey Everyone, We would like to welcome you to join us for an exciting daytime event (https://pivotal.io/event/pivotal-cloud-native-roadshow/sydney)! Learn how to deliver software like Pivotal and Google, starting at 9:15am - 4:00pm, in the Pivotal Labs Office. Over the course of the day, you'll learn about the Pivotal Cloud Foundry platform and building applications with Spring Boot, while leveraging Google Cloud Platform for reliability and at-scale data management service integrations. We have 4 amazing speakers lined up: • Casey West, Google - He works in internet infrastructure, web app security, and design. All of which have influenced Casey to be a paranoid, UX-oriented, problem-solving internet plumber; his earliest contributions to Perl, live to this day on your Mac. • Cameron Stewart, Pivotal - She has a full-stack developer background thanks to the Galvanize Full Stack Developer program which makes her fiercely passionate about all things cloud-native, 12 factor and agile. • Phil Scanlon, Solace - He's the Head of Technology, APAC for Solace. • Jay Marshall, Google - He's part of the Solutions Engineering team and currently focuses on helping developers and enterprises build on top of Google’s massive global footprint of cloud infrastructure and services known as Google Cloud Platform. For the full agenda, please check out our registration page (https://pivotal.io/event/pivotal-cloud-native-roadshow/sydney). Pivotal will be hands-on to show you how easy it is to develop applications with Spring Boot and integrate with Google Cloud services. You will see first hand how the platform and application framework come together to boost developers’ productivity. We’ll also focus on the developer experience of integrating applications with GCP’s powerful services and delve deeper into microservices. Make sure you don't miss out on this one off event by registering via the dedicated registration page (https://pivotal.io/event/pivotal-cloud-native-roadshow/sydney).
