What we're about
'Polonia' refers to the Polish community outside of Poland. This group is for those interested in Polish conversation, from beginners to those fluent. We will meet in the mornings on the weekends and/or early evenings during the week in the Rogers Park & Evanston areas with an occasional meet elsewhere as I travel (Wi, Denver, ....). This is a group primarily for conversation. Those attending are expected to speak Polish or at least try. Speaking English is discouraged.
A useful web site for prompting discussion is http://krakow.pl/124,artykul,start.html
My heritage is from Southern Poland - the area once know as Galicia. I speak a high-school level of Polish and am slowly working my way through Boże Igrzysko (God's Playground).
For our Saturday spotkania, the food at SBK is tightly tied with local farmers and incredibly delicious for a cafe.
Please RSVP. I keep a Polish słownik or other Polish book on the table instead of flags or signs.
I intend this group to be for adults 21 y.o. and over. There may be discussion and interests expressed that may not necessarily to be appropriate for everyone. We mostly meet in public places. Everyone attending is expected to act politely and to cover their incurred costs e.g. meal, cafe and events. If we order as a group, everyone adding 18% tip to their portion is expected. In the event that someone under 21 attends, I ask that they at all times be accompanied by a responsible adult.
