Portland Civic Hack Night @ Mechanics Hall Library
• What we'll do Once a month we discuss and work on civic technology at the Mechanics Hall Library. Civic Hacking is the idea of applying rapid prototyping and modern, open technology to the solution of common civic problems such as voting, budgeting, parking, transit, community engagement, etc., (to name just a few). Everyone is welcome from all backgrounds and skill levels. We suggest bringing a laptop or something to work on for unstructured time. We also share what we are working on at the beginning of each meetup and will sometimes have a scheduled speaker. There is usually some simple food and drink like pizza, but you may want to bring some of your own as well. Let us know if you have any food recommendations since we're thinking about what food to have for 2018! The Maine Charitable Mechanics Association is a 200+ year old private membership organization to support people who make things. Traditionally comprised of artisans and craftsmen, it has a long history of members (like Paul Revere) interested in the scientific revolution and civic innovation. Since 2015, it has a renewed mission to provide community support, high speed (fiber) internet access, and meeting space for people who align with the modern makers movement. So, come hack your city (in a good way)! Everyone is welcome! There are no rules. • What to bring laptops are encouraged but not required • Important to know follow code for maine on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/code4maine/
