CodeAcross Boulder (Code for Boulder Kickoff)

Interested in working on projects that benefit people in our local community, or have a great idea to make Boulder even more awesome?  Join us at RefactorU to kick off Boulder's Code for America Brigade.

Get in on the ground floor and help start projects in conjunction with local government to benefit communities in and around Boulder.  And don't worry if you're not a "coder" - all skill sets are welcome and needed.

You bring a laptop, we'll bring pizza, veggies, snacks, and beverages (thanks to our awesome sponsors below!).

• Introductions

• Becky Boone will speak about Code for America and her experiences starting a brigade in Anchorage, AK

• Brief overview of the current state of the city & what's already available

• Scott Primeau will speak about, Colorado's open data platform.

• Possible areas of improvement / innovation

• Pitches and brainstorming for what to work on

• Group work / open time

• Opportunity to share what people are working on

To see more regional data from places like Boulder County and the City of Longmont, you can visit http://opencolorado.o.... The City's data is also displayed there.

I'd like to toss out an idea in advance of the meeting. Some 2103 CfA fellows created a great app for Summit County, Ohio called To The Trails, which is a comprehensive hike/bike trails app, including data from local, regional, state and national sources. Since the Boulder region has a similar mix of resources, but no comprehensive app (Boulder County's mobile trails app is great but only covers County-owned trails) it would be great to repurpose this existing CfA app for the Boulder region. Might be a great way for everyone to get their feet wet. Here's the link:

    • Wendy N. was developed and launched at Code For Communities in Denver. Would be great to find folks interested in building out the Boulder County layer.
