Code for Canada Vancouver is back with our second meet-up in June with Province of BC's BC Developer’s Exchange (https://bcdevexchange.org/) and Vancouver's civic tech hackathon success story Recollect (https://recollect.net/)!
Want to find out how you can help solve public issues in our province with code? Come learn more about what tools and resources the Province have available for developers, how you can contribute code and ideas back to the public sector and provide valuable feedback to the development of the BCDevExchange.
Luke Closs, founder of Vancouver's civic tech success story ReCollect (https://recollect.net/), which grew out of a hackathon, will also be on hand to chat about his experience in civic tech.
What is the BC Developer’s Exchange?
It’s an experiment in tech innovation and collaboration. The Province wants to build an ecosystem of innovation and collaboration between tech entrepreneurs and British Columbia's public sector.
• Share British Columbia's public sector code, APIs and data with tech entrepreneurs and seed new business opportunities.
• Collaborate in new ways with tech entrepreneurs to develop public sector code, APIs and technology products and services.
• Build better digital services for the public sector.
• As a start, the Province has joined GitHub. They are now exploring new ways to incentivize contributions, including code, from developers outside government.
About Luke Closs and ReCollect
Luke Closs is an open source hacker turned civic entrepreneur. Just over 5 years ago, Luke grew a hackathon idea into VanTrash, one of the first examples of how open data could make life better for citizens. This little project became a life changing catalyst for Luke to quit his job and start ReCollect - which provides communications tools for Solid Waste and Recycling organizations across North America.
Who Should Attend This Event?
Developers who want create apps for social good, tech entrepreneurs on the hunt for new business opportunities, and those interested in open data, open source code and open collaboration between the private and public sector.
