Aren't you so glad the world didn't end?! With so much planned in 2013, we sure are!
In January, we have a special Writing for Children seminar where literary agent, Taylor Martindale, general manager of Mrs. Nelson's Toy and Book Shop, Andrea Vuleta, picture book author, Naomi Howland, middle-grade nonfiction author, Jen Jones Donatelli, and YA author, Crickett Rumley will be on panel to talk about the craft and business of Writing for Children from different perspectives.
In February, we have literary agent, Paul S. Levine coming out to talk about his own perspective on the publishing business. Get the low down on contracts, copyrights, legalities, formatting a manuscript, and almost anything else you want to know about publishing your book.
Talk about starting off strong, huh? These two seminars are on top of our weekly critique group opportunities, shop talks, and community service opportunities.
Our friends at the San Gabriel Valley Literary Festival have contacted us to help get the word out about a couple of fundraising events that they're doing to give the region the absolute best literary festival possible...
On January 5th, the BEST OPEN MIC EVER will be popping off at the Brantingham household. Come read, eat, and hang out with like-minded writers all for the good of the SGV community. Donate what you like and have fun!
Then from January 7-January 11, they'll be offering an intensive week-long novel writing workshop with John Brantingham. Learn the basics of writing and small-press publications. His students have published their novels and short stories. John's work has been featured on Garrison Keillor's Writer's Almanac and his books have been published through Anaphora Press, Oak Tree Press and World Parade Books. FINALLY get that novel out! The cost is $200...less than a college class, but just as intense. Classes are from 5pm to 8pm, and the cost includes a meal every night.
We're really looking forward to spending our time with you in the coming year. In case you're wondering, our critique groups are here for you without fail for the next two weeks and beyond. Whatever you're celebrating, we hope this is a time filled with joy, love, and creativity.
Keep writing and be merry,
