The first Cologne School of AI meetup is finally scheduled.
Thanks to inovex we have a great location with drinks and food provided.
We hope to see as many of you as possible.
Let's extend this community together !
If anyone is interested to be a speaker - feel free to send a message to [masked] !
18:30 - Doors open
18:45 - Julian Hatzky: Introduction of the School of AI
19:00 - Alexander Hendorf : Deep Learning with PyTorch for Fun and Profit
19:45 - Pizza, Beer & Networking
20:15 - Marcel Kurovski : Recommender Systems and Deep Learning
There are all these great blog posts about Deep Learning describing all that awesome stuff. - Is it all that easy? Let's check! We'll look into: style transfer (making a picture look like painting), speech generation (like Siri or Alexa) and text generation (writing a story). In this talk Alexander describes the whole journey: A fun ride from the idea to the very end including all the struggles, failures and successes.
Online giants like Amazon, Netflix and Spotify use Recommender Systems and Machine Learning to personalize content. This development is accompanied by another remarkable trend in learning machines: Deep Learning.
Almost daily we hear about the tremendous progress rumored to make humans obsolete in more and more domains: skin cancer detection, No-Limit-Hold'em Heads-Up Poker, or speech recognition (no, not yet another Alpha-Go example).
In this talk, Marcel will share his insights in this emerging research area and those of other big players.
Your vote decided:
The poll showed that a lot of you are interested in speakers talking about business use-cases of AI.
Alexander Hendorf is going to talk about a bunch of areas of applied Deep Learning and demonstrating, how much fun and creativity, the process of training a model, can bring along.
Marcel Kurovski will give us an introduction to Recommender Systems with Deep Learning.
Even though the topics are more advanced don't be afraid to participate.
We are trying to provide you with some basics while going deeper into each topic.
Furthermore, the meetup should be a great way to team up in study groups and share knowledge.
Finally I'll post some recommendations to read in advance so you can prepare yourself for the topics that we'll discuss. Even though we will have speakers talking in this meetup, we gladly appreciate if you participate in the community pro-actively - that means:
--> you could write blog posts e.g. on medium and share it in our comment section
--> you can send us a message about what you would like to discuss in the meetups and ideas you might have
--> write us if you want to be a speaker, we want to give everyone the opportunity to practice public speaking and trying to give good feedback
See you soon!
