The Revillagigedo Archipelago is located 400 km SW of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula and attracts large pelagic species, making for spectacular diving encounters. The archipelago consists of 4 islands: San Benedicto, Socorro, Roca Partida and Clarion. The abundance of large marine species has earned the islands the title of the ‘Mexican Galapagos’.
The area is famous for up close and personal encounters with giant Pacific manta rays, up to 7 species of shark, wild bottlenose dolphin, whale sharks and humpback whales who come here to breed and calve annually (both seasonal). Other marine life includes yellowfin tuna, wahoo and thick schools of jacks.
Our research vessel, the M/Y Sharkwater is a 134-foot research and expedition-ready vessel, originally built as a Japanese fishing boat, but has been repurposed for the good of our oceans. Small group, no more than 12 participants, experience with hands on participation.
Fins Attached Mission
To conduct research, promote conservation, and provide education for the protection of the marine ecosystem.
We believe in the preservation of our world’s precious resources and that through the protection of the oceans apex predators, marine ecosystem balance can be maintained for the benefit of all living things on earth.
The health of any ecosystem is controlled largely by its apex predators. So, while our work aims to impact the marine ecosystem as a whole, much of our research is focused on the apex predators of the marine environment, which are sharks.
Our organization is comprised of scientists, companies, organizations, and people concerned with the health of the world’s oceans. The scientists that represent Fins Attached range in backgrounds from divers to Ph.D marine biologists.
As a result, we direct our efforts in the following categories:
Public awareness and education
Advocacy – Affecting international policy to protect our oceans.
