Rationality Reading Group (Casual)
Let’s meet and talk about Rationality topics! I’m calling this a reading group in order to encourage a better understanding and raise the level of conversation that we have at meetups. I’ll assign articles for each meetup well in advance, and while a thorough reading isn’t at all required for you to show up, it is definitely highly encouraged. We’ll start with The Sequences (link below) in ebook order and move on to other articles/books once we’ve exhausted that resource (or our interest in moving further with it, as is often the case). This meetup (and every concurrent 3rd Monday of the month) is our more casual gathering, where we try to be at a brewery or other similar type of location where you can get food or a drink. 1st Mondays of the month are in a more classroom setting, where we try to stay a little more focused on the material. Reading for this week: Rationality: From AI to Zombies – Chapters 46-56 (Full Sequence E) (About 1 hour of reading) Download the full book for free here: https://intelligence.org/rationality-ai-zombies/ Online link to the first chapter of this sequence, if you don’t feel like downloading it: https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/GrDqnMjhqoxiqpQPw/the-proper-use-of-humility Again, you don’t have to read these to come to the meetup. If you’re just interested in what it’s all about, please come!

What we're about

Does epistemology excite you? Do you love logic, relish reasoning, and abhor alliteration? In that case, I'll stop. Join us to socialize with local rationality enthusiasts, read, discuss, and practice methods to improve the way you think. We currently have events in Denver and Boulder.

You can also join our Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/969594296461197/

And we have another Facebook group for our Boulder reading group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/455881738148490/

(Usually, some people RSVP here on Meetup, and some RSVP on Facebook, so don't worry if it looks like only a few people have RSVPed to a particular event.)
