Moderate Hike Palmer Park
Let's start to challenge ourselves for the winter with a moderate level, chilly weather (35°-40°) hike in Palmer Park. Meet in the Council Bluffs Parking Lot (see map). The trails we will travel are rocky and slanted in places with some narrow parts. Ice and snow is still present on the northern, shaded portions. Hiking boots are required for this hike, no tennis shoes please. Hike is rated as Moderate due to rocky terrain, distance, time, pace, and some elevation gain and loss over the course of the hike. Estimate 2.5 to 3 miles. Adults only. This is not a photography hike. There will be scenic moments and overlooks, rock formations, etc. to enjoy, but all group members are expected to stay with the group. It is very easy to get lost in Palmer Park. Stopping frequently puts hikers at risk for hypothermia. General things to remember: Dress in layers. Hiking boots, hiking poles, yaktrax/microspikes, gators, sunscreen, sunglasses, snacks, water, daypack, hat, jacket, gloves, camera/phone, first aid, hand/foot warmers. Well-behaved dogs are welcome and must be kept on-leash at all times in accordance with the COS City Park regulations. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. This means picking up, packing out, and disposing of pet waste in trash cans at the parking lot. This hike is cross-posted on two other Meetup sites. Please sign up on only one. Happy Trails!
