Announcing a new Meetup for Columbia Camera Club!

What: Airshow - Blue Angels over Charleston Harbor

When: Saturday, April 17,[masked]:30 AM

For those interested in going to see the Navy's The Blue Angels perform their flight demonstration routine over Charleston Harbor on Saturday, April 17th?

There will be a group of CCC members who will be going down to Charleston for a day of shooting the historic district, followed by a rare opportunity to watch and photograph the Blue Angels perform over water. If you've never seen them fly over water then be prepare for a different experience. If you thought they were loud, you ain't heard nothing yet. Hearing protection is HIGHLY recommended..!!!

A group of us will meet at the McDonald's at exit #115 of of I-26 at 7:30, and after eating breakfast we will caravan to Charleston. We will meetup at Waterfront Park by the Pineapple fountain at 10:00 and from there we will walk the streets of Charleston photographing out little heart's out. We will reconvene at Waterfront Park @ 1:00 to get ready for the airshow. (Keep checking back here to see if the plans change between now and then).

The Charleston Harbor Airshow with the amazing United States Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, The Blue Angels, will be held on Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 18 beginning at 2 pm each day, with shows lasting one hour each day. The Town of Mount Pleasant and the City of Charleston are co-sponsors of the event. The show will center over Charleston Harbor and the Cooper River.

Details for the public will be sent out as they are completed and confirmed. Additional details thus far are:

In Charleston:
?Charleston Maritime Center

?White Point Garden and the Battery
?Liberty Square/Concord Park at Calhoun and Concord

In Mount Pleasant:
?The best viewing spot in Mount Pleasant is Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum
oAboard the USS Yorktown: fees may be applicable
oFrom the parking lot at Patriots Point: $3 parking fee. Seating will be limited. Free access for pedestrians

NOTE: The Pedestrian and Bike Path on the Arthur Ravenel Bridge will be closed during the Charleston Harbor Airshow on Saturday and Sunday. There will also be closures of the Ped and Bike Path during practices on Thursday and Friday. Time frames will be posted later.

? Areas in the Cooper River and Charleston Harbor will be restricted in terms of boat traffic and anchorage during the shows.

? We are currently working on arrangements with local radio stations to play the narration of the Blue Angels show done by one of the team members. Plan on bringing a portable radio to your viewing area to hear the description of the show as the Blue Angels fly. Announcements will be made as to which stations will broadcast the narration.

In Charleston: Shuttles will be provided from the parking lots at Lockwood and Hagood Avenues around the City Police Department. Cost for parking (which will also help to offset the cost of shuttles) will be $5 per vehicle (standard special event rate). Shuttles will take viewers to White Point Garden and the Waterfront Park viewing areas and return them to the parking lots after the show. Shuttles will run from 11am to 5 pm Saturday and Sunday.

? Memorial Waterfront Park: .50 cents per hour

Some streets near the viewing areas may need to be closed and traffic patterns may be affected.
? On Saturday, April 17th and Sunday April 18th, the intersections of South Battery and East Battery and Murray Boulevard and King Street (around White Point Garden) will be closed to allow viewers access to the street for viewing.

 In Mount Pleasant:
Traffic congestion is expected as early as 10 am near Patriots Point on 4/17 and 4/18. Motorists are urged to avoid Coleman Boulevard, between 12 and 5 pm. Use US 17 South and take a left on McGrath Darby Boulevard to reach Patriots Point.
