Working in a setting with restricted creative freedom and very few creative-minded individuals as co-workers can be very difficult and boring at times. Another problem many individual creatives, you are “the artist” in your friend circle and don’t have very many outlets to get helpful feedback on your work. Digital technology is always a good tool for looking for positive feedback but relying on that alone may only get you so far and the feedback may not always be so helpful.
As a graduate from the illustration program at the Columbus College of Art and Design that has been thrown out in the corporate world, We can understand these sentiments. Whether you fall into any of these categories or you are simply looking for a group of local like-minded individuals, you are in luck. We would like to offer create the opportunity to come and get-together with other local artists to create, collaborate, exchange ideas and critiques, and build connections. The kinds of artists the Sketchgroup will focus on will primarily be 2D based artists [i.e.: illustration, sequential art, painting, drawing, etc] so that everyone will be in familiar territory but will have enough varied interests, backgrounds, and skill levels that there will always be an opportunity to get a new perspective on your own work.
ALL SKILL LEVELS WELCOME. I cannot emphasize how important it is that no one feels discouraged or intimidated by their peers’ work in this group. The only way for anyone to improve in anything is to keep practicing.
