Alum Creek Boating Event (ACBE)

Tuesdays @ 6:30 PM, June through August

For years many boaters have made the pilgrimage out to Alum Creek Beech every Tuesday @ 6:30 PM, June through August, to practice strokes, rolls, and rescues. This year we will continue to trek out to the beech every Tuesday, but we have added some fun new events. There will be a photo contest, demos of common mistakes swimmers make, information on best trips to paddle based on your skill level, kayak soccer, a raffle, prizes from The Outdoor Source, and more.

This Tuesday The Outdoor Source will come out with some of their latest equipment from their new Polaris location for you to try out.

All skill levels are welcome with participants can providing their own boats, although Outdoor Source will provide boats and equipment on this demo day. Participants are required to sign a standard COP liability release at the event. ACBEs are at the NORTH end of Alum Creek Lake State Park Beach. This is the part of the beach furthest from the dam on the west side of the reservoir.

You can also subscribe to Yahoo Group COPBOAT and COP on Facebook.

Someone took a recreational kayak down a Class II-III section of the New River last Sunday and did fine. They weren't on my trip but it can be done. Time to start WW.

I will bring my kayak (recreational). I am looking forward to meeting everyone and seeing the demo equipment. I have never done whitewater.

Looking forward to seeing you roll. Learned a trick that makes the roll easy to teach.

Hi Licia. Bring your Burn and I better see some scratches on it. I think it hasn't seem enough river time. :) You should have been on my New River trip last weekend. So much fun. Big water but very easy. You too Erica. Bring your new boat and we can work on strokes, where to paddle next, what groups have what trips and when. All that fun stuff.

you're going this weekend? YES! You bring the wine, I'll bring the straws. Can't wait to see you, girlie!

The Alum Creek Beech location has not changed. Just making sure its pinpointed on the map correctly. The beech doesn't seem to have an address. When you click on "Alum Creek State Park" at the top of this invite it does point you to the right location on the map. Its just North of Polaris. Let me know if you have questions on how to get there.

Did I mention you could get wet depending on what you are up for. If you just want to paddle a recreational kayak without a skit you should stay dry. If you want to try out a whitewater boat and rolls, rescues, the ducky, you'll get wet. There are changing rooms.

I'll also bring my white water playboat and a ducky we used on the New River in WV last weekend. A ducky is like a blowup sit on top kayak that lets you join more advanced kayakers on whitewater but is much more stable and easy to paddle. The disadvantage is that they are costly but COP has them for rent for $10 / day (free tomorrow). Just another fun toy.

Now there are too many to list all your names. Looking forward to seeing all of you. I talked to Outdoor Source today and they will have a sit on top to try as well at the rec. boats. Some were asking about the sit on top so I thought I would mention it.

Joe should be able to make it as well.

Great to see several people attending. I talked to Alisa with Outdoor Source‏ in Polaris this week. They plan on bringing enough recreational kayaks and paddles for all to try. If you think you may want to try kayaking on easy or hard rivers in PA or WV, I can bring extra whitewater kayaks. Just let me know.
