Re: [Comal-River-Riders-Club] January 2018 CRRC Meeting

Although I have not been riding much (as I would like to), with all due respect – there are some riding clubs that, well, just ride!  I look at THIS (our) club as being folks that like to (1) ride together, and (2) enjoy each others company socially.  Great combination. - Bill “Mooseman” Hitch.

While I understand and respect your point I believe we’ve gone very far away from a riding club and are much more a social group. I believe we have the riding enthusiasm (note the sheer number of 2017 rides) to maintain interest. That interest is not generated by non member diners but rather by our membership riders
I would say boating is much less group oriented also.

I think it's important to first identify what is trying to be accomplished by our monthly meeting. Is it a social event where our members can visit prior to the actual sharing of information, or is it solely for the purpose of the sharing of information pertaining to our joy of motorcycling? As one that rarely eats at our meetings (and not the only one), I agree with Andy's opinion that food isn't a necessity IF the purpose of the meeting is for the purpose of sharing information. Quarterly works for me, too.

As for the Golden Corral, we had a couple of meetings there a few years back. At that time they wouldn't block the room out for us (there were strangers eating in the room when one of our meeting's started), they wouldn't let us block the entry to other people if they chose to eat in there, and
the room was noisy. Hopefully that's changed.

Fellow Members...I need to tell all y'all about our meeting location situation.  As y'all know we're growing and it's getting increasingly difficult to find a meeting location venue that will do the following:  1)  provide a private room large enough to accommodate up to 60 people; 2)  provide the room at no charge to the club; and 3) allow people to attend the meeting without having to eat.

Montana Mike's provided us all the above; however, there have been some grumblings that there's a limited menu and folks are getting tired of it.  Also, in December we called a week in advance to reserve the room and it had been given to another group.  So, we held the December meeting at Bosses Pizza.  Those that attended know that there were a few issues:  1) the A/C didn't work and it got very warm in the room; 2) the room barely had enough room for the 52 members that attended; and 3) we had to purchase a $50 gift card to reserve the room.  That's reality folks...nearly all restaurants will require some kind of payment to reserve a party room, e.g., guarantee a minimum number of meals, charge a fee to reserve the room, etc.

In any case, we've reserved the party room at the Golden Corral for the January 2018 meeting; while it meets our first two requirements, it fails on the third.  Folks wishing to attend the meeting MUST purchase a meal in order to enter the restaurant.  In principle, I have issues with that but it does offer a wide variety of food and provides much greater choice.  All the specifics are on the CRRC Meetup site.

So, here's the bottom line:  as a Club, we need to decide what's more important...meet at a location that doesn't require any form of prepayment but has a limited menu or members must offer some form of payment up front.

We will hold the January 2018 meeting at the Golden Corral and see how it goes.  I need to hear from all y'all on what you believe is the best course of action for the remainder of 2018.  If you have any suggestions, I want to hear them.  I look forward to hearing from you.  Sorry for the length of this email but thanks for listening.

Batman
