Committed Knitters is a non-profit program that has been around for 10+ years! We are a group of volunteers who have a love for knitting or crocheting and are eager to spend some of our own time teaching others how to!
Once a week we go spend time in Cook County Correctional Facilities.
Here we spend time with people in the facilities and show them the magic of knitting/crocheting. Once you master knitting/crocheting your body unconsciously does so many things! It can lower your heart rate, lower your blood pressure, can lower cortisol (a stress hormone), it can even help build self esteem and create community!!! It's a great thing to keep your hands busy too! Imagine giving someone the gift of this! That's what we as Committed Knitters do!
We are ALWAYS on the look out for people to join our Committed Knitters Family!
The bigger we can become, the more people we can reach and teach these skills to!!
Committed Knitters is not racial, religious, political, sex, age, disability, relationship, or social status discriminate!
Help us grow!
*We are always looking for donations of all kinds: knitting needles (wood or plastic), crochet hooks (wood or plastic), yarn and string!* You can mail or drop them off at:
