Educate to Eliminate (cleanup)

The Dive Guys annual “Educate to Eliminate” clean-up is back on! We will again be diving under the wharf and picking up the rubbish. We will also be scrambling under the breakwater picking up the wind-blown rubbish. The event is designed to show people not only the cool life (fish, crabs and octopuses) under the wharf, but we will also give ideas of how to minimise the impact of rubbish in this vibrant ecosystem.

The timings are:

0930 -1000 - Divers arrive at Taranaki Wharf cut-outs drop off gear
1030 - welcome and safety brief, start getting in the water.
1115 - all divers/walkers to be in the water or on the rocks
1215 - all kayakers and walkers out of the water kayaks returned to Fergs Kayaks
1230 - everyone out of the water and cleaned up for group photo
1300 - after match at Macs Brewbar

Big thanks in advance to Fergs kayaks, NZ Fire Service, Wellington City Council, Wellington Waterfront Ltd, The Island Bay Marine Education centre and of course our regular clean-up diver Mayor Celia Wade-Brown.

We will be looking for all sorts of volunteers to help out, so if you would like to be involved contact Steve at [masked], or find The Dive Guys on Facebook. This event is open to anyone who wants to come down and have a look!

I'm aiming to snorkel this one; wondering if there might be a hire discount on the gear. And confused about logistics in general.. will there be changing facilities, etc.? Hopefully these things will be explained closer to the date.

I actually don't know. I will send an email and find out and post more details here.

I heard back from the Dive Guys and he is just organising it so no gear hire discount. And he said most divers just get changed on the wharf.
