Play Music on bronze, wood and string instruments

Hello Community Gamelan members.  After a successful first meet up we are holding another at the Array Space. We have decided to request $10.00 per person but will hold off on making that mandatory. If you don't have it, come and donate what you can. There will still be light refreshments and juice, coffee and tea for all. The Array Space and the Gamelan need support so this wil insure we can keep these wonderful events going.

I have scheduled the Gamelan meetup for the first Saturday of each month July, Aug, Sept. and October so there are more chances to attend.  As for the cap on attendance.  I discovered, with the help of the first attendees, that 13 or 14 people are ideal.  However I can make room for up to 20 with some additional instruments and most times sudden events cut back on the 20 rsvps by a small percentage.

So The cap will now be 20. If enough people are on the waiting list, I may try to schedule another within the same time period. Let's see how it goes!

It's best to be able to remove your shoes.  Tight pants or short skirts are going to make playing uncomfortable so wear loose, comfortable clothing. You sit on the floor or on low stools. Have a look at the picture and you can see the height of the instruments.

The music was absolutely lovely and just what I had hoped it would be. We can dig a bit deeper next time and discover more musical pathways.

Hope to see you there,

Rick

Won't be able to make it unfortunately as I'll be in BC. But I wrote an article on the Gamelan meetup (with a video) on my new travel web site at:

    Enjoy!

HD commercial videos of degung performances played by Sundanese musicians are rare, but I've found a few uploaded to YT. Shall I send you a list or post them here?

BTW Meetup folks, feel free to scroll through my FB page where for several years I've 'curated' many examples of Sundanese music including 'degung klasik' (instrumental degung music), 'degung kawih' (solo vocalist with degung, a v. popular genre) and 'rampak sekar degung' (chorus with degung). https://www.facebook.c... and also here https://www.facebook.c.... To hear the entire huge range of recorded Sundanese music listen to radio Baraya Sunda http://www.radiobaray... streaming 24/7 from Bandung.
