7th SDET meetup @Guardian

Our Event starts at 19.00:

# Introduction

Talk #1 - A Journey: From QA to SDET

A look at the question of why more manual testers are not making the transition to SDET. Based on my own experiences I'll discuss what is preventing testers from making this transition, how to overcome these obstacles, the key steps testers can take to begin the journey and what developers and SDET's can do to help.

About the Speaker:

Marc Jones, Software Engineer in Test at The Guardian with 7 years experience in testing

Talk #2 - Introducing wraith-donk

In July 2013 the BBC released the command line based responsive screenshot comparison tool Wraith. To make it more useful to our development team and CI workflow, we have wrapped the wraith process in a web server you can trigger by URL and which sends email difference notifications. We call itwraith-donk. This talk will include an introduction to wraith-donk and a live demo (if the live demo gods are smiling on me.)

About the Speaker:

Gideon Goldberg, software engineer in test at the guardian and a keen collector of tech conference swag.

Talk #3: iOS Automation with Cucumber and Appium

Speaker: Shashikant Jagtap

This technical talk will demo following Setting up Mac OSX for iOS automationSetting up Mobile App for Appium TestUsing Appium Inspector and writing Cucumber step definitionsRunning cucumber iOS scenarios  locally in Mac OSXRunning cucumber iOS scenarios in the Saucelabs grid

Shashikant is Senior Developer in Test and BDD Practitioner. Shashikant has evaluated popular BDD frameworks like Cucumber and Behat. He has massive interest in social media and blogging. He blogs about BDD & cutting edge Open-Source tools. Read his a blog at

A big thank you to everyone involved in organising yesterday's event, to Gideon, Marc and Shashikant for speaking, and to all those that attended. It was great to meet many of you and to have such a lively discussion around what it takes to be an SDET and test automation approaches. There's only so much you can discuss over the course of an evening, so if any of you would like to know more about how we test at The Guardian, then please do get in touch.

This meetup is full...but I bet there will be people that don't show up. Is there a waiting list?

Hi Lim, the number of attendants was increased from 50 to 65 for that purpose. Unfortunately there isn't a waiting list as doesn't allow it when there is a contribution involved when RSVP'ing (we have a voluntary contribution of 2.5GBP for Great Ormond Street Hospital)
