Why do you like creating music?

I've dabbled a little bit in orchestral composing but want to really dive in and start composing for films, video, and the like. I am definitely an instrumentalist as well, but want to focus equally on composing for full orchestra.

Which living composers do you like most, and why?

Howard Shore, no question! I've listened to the various LoTR scores dozens of times - they just speak to me in a way that no other music does. Incredibly evocative, of journeys and adventures long past.

Which past composers do you admire?

I'm not incredibly up on no-longer-living composers. I generally prefer more modern works, particularly film - so Hans Zimmer, John Williams, Howard Shore, et. al. are my biggest influences. I've heard some Sibelius and Mahler that I quite liked. Actually, you could put Miles Davis pretty high up there for me. I come from a jazz background, so my ear is definitely tuned to that style of music and harmonic progression.

Musician, aspiring film/video composer, multi-instrumentalist, programmer, health writer, entrepreneur. Moved to Bend from Seattle in late 2013 and have been setting up a home studio, very much looking forward to diving into orchestral composing.
