This is a group that goes on a large ship and cruises out toward Catalina Island to view the Milky Way Galaxy, amazing meteor showers and more! The open dark skies of the ocean are ideal for viewing the stars and constellations, away from all the lights on land. We go out for 3 hour cruises and when the boat stops, the on board astronomer guides us through the stars and constellations with a light pointer! We will also have travel events which focus on astronomy, such as mountain observatory trips, aurora trips, and total eclipse trips! Come enjoy a beautiful and unique night under the stars!
Free Cruise to the first 4 members who RSVP with 1 guest!!
Come experience the October stars and constellations! Enjoy a fun and educational evening as your on board astronomer guides you through the constellations and stars with a light pointer on the top deck of the boat! During this Halloween season we will learn of some scary giant red stars and learn about the mythology of Madusa, the snake haired demon and see the stars that represent her! We cruise out toward Catalina Island where the skies are very dark with little light pollution from land and the stars are amazing! The boat comes to a stop and we all gather on the top deck of the boat and an astronomer then traces out all the constellations with a pointer and discusses comets, planets, star clusters, meteors, galaxies and more! The night will be moon free and dark enough to see the Milky Way Galaxy and some Orionid Meteors! We have other groups attending so RSVP today to get your seat(s)! Join us for this unique night under the stars! Arrive by 7:30 pm to start boarding. The cruise leaves at 8 pm and returns at 11 pm. The boat has a bar and food for sale. The cost is $70 per person, payable when boarding, cash only. From past cruise experience, sometimes there is a parking fee and sometimes not, because we use the Queen Mary's parking lot. If you wish to be certain to avoid a parking fee, you can simply go to the Queen Mary before the cruise and have dinner or just grab a coffee or drink and they will comp your parking. The boat we use is parked right next to the Queen Mary so everything is walking distance.
