The target audience for CS2UM is those at the University of Maryland and the broader community, and at any level of experience and expertise, interested in the social sciences, analytics, and data science. As an organization we have three organizing principles. First, we have a scientific orientation in that we will seek to highlight high quality analytical work that exploits “big data”, and that employs best practices from social science research methods in order to produce real insights from that analysis. Second, we have an educational orientation in that we seek to help members learn about new tools, analytical methods, and data. Third, we have a community orientation in that we hope to build a network of interesting people working on related problems.
