Hey all, this is a group which primarily meets and communicates online. For members in AZ, there is a possibility of physically meeting up from time to time. Making simple computer and board games is a hobby of mine I participate in lightly, but I would like to get more involved with it. I think this hobby would be even more fun if people of similar interests joined in and made it a collaborative effort, hence the creation of this group. For the purposes of organization and getting things done (until the group expands), I will be the key creative coordinator / designer for most projects.
That said, these games are pretty basic, and are created not for profit, but for entertainment, leisure, and skill building. Don't expect them to be grand scale or AAA titles, think indie games or classic 8-16 bit videogames. I am more interested in creating simple, short games so that we have workable demos, as opposed to full games at this time. If I get a committed and large group, the results can be better, but expect it to be simple to start.
There is a lot that goes on in the game making process. A game can use workers in music, art, story, character design/creation, programming logic, etc. No experience is required for any of this to join, just a desire to work on a creative project in a group. By joining, you agree that any work/effort you put in is voluntary, and any ideas/art you submit may or may not be used within projects, but you grant permission for the group to use said art works. Anything the group puts out, you agree to abide by any terms that are created per it's distribution (that is, you give permission to use your works for this project whether it gets sold or is distributed for free or ported to other platforms, regardless of whether you get contacted beforehand and regardless of whether you get a portion of any, if any, financial or other benefits from it) will give credit to whom credit is due, you won't claim someone else's art/story/music as your own. This group and I am not liable for any ideas you share if it ends up getting used elsewhere outside your permission. All this is stated so that work can be showcased, with potential for similar/same projects to be sold, without hinderance in the case that a member uses an alias or is unable to be contacted at some later date, and without fear of legal concerns.
That all said, this group is and should be seen primarily as a fun hobby group in which to stretch creative muscles and build game making skills. If you have a grand idea/story that you think you can actually one day make money from, don't share it with the group if you wish to use it commercially. Otherwise, if the idea of game making sounds fun to you, jump on in and let's start a project together.
Tools may include Gamemaker Studio, LOVE 2D gamemaking engine, etc
*ONCE YOU HAVE JOINED, CHECK THE DISCUSSION PAGE and send me an email so you can be included in Game making discussions. IT IS UP TO YOU to make first contact and get involved. If you do not hear from me, send another message and notify me on Meetup (it's possible messages go to the Spam box or that I somehow miss it)
