This is one of the free outdoor shows I'm most excited for this summer. This tribute to Fela Kuti.. who's probably the most famous and rebellious African musician to ever live is gonna be a seriously hot time in Coney Island. His music is some of the funkiest stuff you could ever hear. It's a mix of James Brown Funk, African rhythms, Smokin Jazz, and the kinda music you can't just sit still for! This is gonna be extra special as the band is comprised of Sahr Ngaujah who played Fela in the Tony award winning musical about his life and who will be singing all the songs..as well as the 10 piece band who played on Broadway.. along with the dancers and singers from the play. Here's some tunes I'd recommend checking out by Fela- Zombie, Water no get enemy, Shakara, Lady, and really anything you can get your hands on! Most of his songs are 15+ minutes at least..with many going for 20 mins. If you like to dance..this is one show you won't want to miss. It's being put on by summerstage and is one of the few free shows this summer at the Ford Amphitheatre in Coney Island. If people are up for it we can also walk around the boardwalk and Coney Island after the show. Grab some food and enjoy a beautiful summer night on the boardwalk! The show starts at 8pm and will be going till 10pm.. I'm planning to be close up to the stage and dancing the night away. PS..the concert should let out just as the Friday night fireworks are starting so that's a nice little bonus!!
