What's the purpose? - To create fun, interactive ways to bridge the communication gap between men and women of color in order to establish stable family foundations within our community.
A few years back I started observing men and women conversations. I noticed how frequently men and women (including myself) misinterpret and misconstrue each other's words and actions due to the lack of communication. It caught my attention how candid, and honest these conversations were and how relaxed the men and women of the same sex were with one another, compared to the ones of the opposite sex in which there were little to no communication and their interactions deemed to be socially awkward.
After, researching these conversations and interactions, everyone had the same answer when asked, "What is the reason for not being open and honest with someone of the opposite sex?" the replies were; "fear of judgment", "fear of rejection", " not wanting to be too vulnerable". A few responses stuck out to me, "I hate being honest with someone because they get defensive and think I'm being mean" a guy mentioned and a female told me, "I don't like having "serious" conversations because the other person isn't fully listening"
Hearing that and having my own experiences with communication failure, I concluded that if people are in a fun, interactive, "no pressure" environment then those fears and hesitations that arise when being open and honest will eventually dissolve and communicating with each other would be comforting and enjoyable instead of WW3.
Who should Join, Why?
While professional men and women 21+ are welcomed most activities and events are geared towards 27 and older. I realized men and women are better communicators in "no pressure" situations and are more willing to be open and honest about their views on daily matters such as work, dating, relationships and much more!
