What we're about

The Conejo-Simi Valley Writers Group seeks to bond and strengthen its writer-members in their desire to become better writers. We are here to help our members discover how to write at the top of their form, to edit their work to near-perfection, to get published, and to then encourage them to repeat the write-edit-publish formula over and over.

This Group is open to both published and unpublished writers whose writing interests might be expressed across a wide range of formats and genres. Conejo Valley writers' Group is free to join, and has no cost for participation. We accept donations to support our meetup site, but don't require dues.

But because we're free to join... We only ask that members be active in the group. Sign up for the mailing list. If you allow your RSVP activity (yes or no) to lapse for more than 3 months, you will be removed from the group. If you look through the calendar of upcoming events and don't see anything you'd like to attend, then are you the type of person to start a critique group and drive your own destiny? Please only apply if you intend to be active in the group.

Tuesday Virtual Meeting

Online event

We are all about supporting each other's writing efforts. We limit attendance to 6 to make sure we have time to review everyone's work. If you RSVP, please make sure you come. If you can't come, please cancel early enough for someone else to take your spot. You can submit anything at all: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, short story or novel. Up to 1600 words (soft limit), please make sure to upload your file to the group folder on Google Drive at least 1/2 hour ahead of time so we can all print it out: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1XrAlYeEfyXpNTx8Gcqh8AWgq_H4HLADF?usp=sharing This folder has group access. Everyone is responsible for downloading and printing their own copies. We will each take a few minutes to read each piece aloud (or silently, should you prefer) then we will have an opportunity to discuss and provide helpful feedback on plot, character development, and voice. Join with Google Meet https://meet.google.com/uaj-qnda-svb

Monthly Membership Meeting

Conejo Creek North Park

The Goebel Center is still closed and we will hold the meeting on August 22. It will once again be an informal outdoor meeting of members and guests where we can catch up with one another, discuss writing issues, critique any pieces we have been working on. If you bring a piece to share the normal 5 to 7 minutes reading time applies. We will be social distancing so we are not requiring masks when seated, your choice. If you wish to “hang out” past noon, and would like to bring a picnic lunch, please feel free to do so. PLEASE R.S.V.P to me ( [masked]) or Judith ([masked] ) if you are interested in attending and if you are bringing guests. At this time we are planning on meeting at the Creekside Pavilion > Date: Saturday, August 8th > Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm (early time to avoid the heat) The Conejo Creek North Park is just north of the Goebel Center. Below is a link to the map of the grounds. https://www.crpd.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/CCN-Map-With-Healing-Garden.pdf Thank you, we hope to see you soon!
