”You can get anything you want at Alice's restaurant." Arlo's song wasn't about Alice or the restaurant. It was just the name of the song.
This isn't a Folk Festival paddle. It's just the name of the paddle.
It is a somewhat relaxed paddle on Narragansett Bay between Jamestown and Newport. I say somewhat because at times the wind blows and the seas rock.
A typical paddle is to proceed over to Castle Hill light for photo ops and then head up the coast to Fort Adams. A brief stop to listen to a little music see the sites. We can land on a little bit of beach. There are no facilities. (See pictures)
From there we paddle around Newport Harbor. There will be plenty of sailboats and power boats of all sizes in the water so you will need to pay attention. We may stop for lunch on Rose Island. It is a nice place to visit, there are facilities, a nice little museum with the Lighthouse, and a gift shop. To visit the island is $10 per person. For more info see https://www.roseisland.org/
After lunch we will make our way across the bay to Jamestown and Fort Wetherill.
This paddle is a Level 3 (assuming less than 10 mph winds). Large boats ply the waters so expect some boat wakes. You need to be aware of boats all around you at times. Open water crossings 1 nautical mile. Total trip 12-14 miles.
We will have a pre-paddle briefing at 9:45 and launch at 10:00am. Please arrive early enough to get your self ready and be able to assist others who might need assistance.
