Haymarket HQ Square Table shares the untold stories of Australian startups founders that are doing business in Asia. Listen to entrepreneurs open up about their setbacks, learnings and experiences starting up in Asia-Pacific.

At AUD$28billion per year, international education is now Australia’s third largest export industry with Chinese students a main source of revenue. The growth of Chinese international students is not just limited to Australia, as more and more Chinese youths are choosing to study abroad and becoming the main targets of increasingly more universities across the US, UK and Australia.

Education equals big business and consequently, China’s education technology sector has been booming in the past few years. However, foreign universities, corporations and governments have little understanding about the Chinese education sector and how it might develop in the future.

That is, until EdTech veterans and ex-education investors Maria Spies and Patrick Brothers set up HolonIQ - a global market intelligence platform for education that aims to better predict and plan for the future of education. Not surprisingly, they’ve taken a strong focus on China.

Maria and Patrick will discuss the following topics:

The role of Asia and China in Australia’s education sector

Global education trends and possible impacts for Australia

Innovation in the education space in China

Opportunities for your education business in China

This week's speaker: Maria Spies, Co-Founder & Managing Director of HolonIQ

During his time at Navitas Ventures, Patrick held the role of Chief Executive Officer, as well as Chief Development Officer at both Navitas and CIMIC and was responsible for major international public and private partnerships. He has also been a director of corporate strategy at Deloitte and an advisory working across tech, media and telco sectors, and has served as an officer in the Australian Army.

Patrick has founded several startups including Factbase and Rush Labs and worked extensively with small expedition teams in crossing oceans, climbing Everest and developing high-speed aviation projects.
