What we're about

Thich Nhat Hahn says, “Meditation is not passive, sitting in silence. It is sitting in awareness, free from distraction, and realizing the clear understanding that arises from concentration.”

As a group, we believe meditation is not designed to be a moment of stillness in a life of chaos. We believe it is designed to give us a life of stillness and the tools to help us easily move through chaos. We do this through expanding our consciousness, to see what we might not have seen yesterday, to see the thing which brings us joy.

To do this, we design our meditation practice to be a three-stage process. It begins with 'centering.' Most meditators are aware of the first stage of meditation, the stage we call centering. This is where we free our mind, relax our body and center ourselves into the moment. Centering is a powerful process that rejuvenates us and can teach us the extraordinary experience of mindfulness, but it is not natural for the brain to exist without thought. The key to most meditation practices is to learn the art of not letting thought control you but to control your thought. Our processes are centered around opening the mind to new thought, thought beyond our current understanding of our existence.

We expand our awareness by moving into the second stage of our meditative practice. This second stage we call 'active listening.' In this stage of the practice, the participant is guided to a state of listening to the thought that exists beyond our current, limited perspective of reality. In it we are guided, not to what is possible in the future, but to what already exists beyond the world we are currently seeing. Our mind exists to make us happy. Our life exists to bring us joy. Our consciousness, by its design, is continuously attempting to guide us to a happier, healthier experience of living. Active listening is our conscious participation in that process.

The final stage of our meditation practice is the 'contemplation' stage. In this stage, we do not try to adopt or understand the new information, from our current understanding of reality. We instead, learn to sit in a state of not understanding, until our mind expands to the space where the new information exists. We sit in awareness of our misunderstanding and we allow the thought to guide us to new understanding.

Our lives are meant to be beautiful expression of our natural genius. If you are struggling at all, unhappy at all, lost at all, we hope you have the opportunity to find yourself here.

Introduction to Meditation

The Self-Care Sanctuary

Meditation can seem difficult to some, but it can be easy and when done properly. It will cure illness, create peace of mind and give us access to information we can get in no other way. It has expanded the consciousness of people like Einstein and led entire communities of people to safety for centuries. Join us for an ongoing discussion of the mind and the two driving forces that determine how we access information. We are here to recognize the differences between a life that is thriving and one that is merely surviving, by learning to master living every moment to its fullest. This group meets every Thursday night from 6:30 - 7:15 and is followed by a in-depth meditation practice. The process includes a detailed description of meditation, how it works and it's ongoing effect on brain functions. It also teaches us to understand the core differences between instinct and intuition, so we can come to life's choices with a lot more clarity. In the end, the thing that always helps us the most is to develop predictable results. If it works every time, use it. If it doesn’t, let’s find the variable, so it will. These Meetups are offered free of charge. We do accept donations to help us pay for the space, but they are neither expected or required.

Releasing Meditation

The Self-Care Sanctuary

We are all so much more than our history. Connect again with yourself, as you let fall those things which no longer serve you. Release work stress, financial worries, family definitions, hopes and fears and all of the little triggers that might be holding you back. We meet the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month to release what no longer serves us, so we can finally connect again with all that is available beyond it. Meditations are a guided, three-step process, with about 30 - 45 minutes of meditation time and the opportunity for group sharing throughout the experience. There is no cost to participate. We do welcome contributions, if you would like to help us support the space, but they aren’t required. This Meetup is offered free of charge. For those who are interested, there will be a $5 Study Group meeting after the meditation, to discuss ways to improve our meditation practices. If you would like more details about our meditation practices, you can find them on the 'Our Meditation Practices' Page or on our website at http://theselfcaresanctuary.com/home-2/conscious-transformation-meditation-group/ Lighten your burden and relish the moment of release. Trajectory Shift Meditation

The Self-Care Sanctuary

It can be a tendency of our culture to define who we are by what we have experienced, but the truth is; we are all so much more than our history. Throughout time, no one like you has ever existed and the person you are today will never exist again. This is valuable. Realign with the truth of who you are through this simple, in-depth meditation practice. Return to your core and reclaim the person you were born to be; the person who never lost sight of the truth in your heart, the idealism which defines your purpose and the ease of living that is your inherent birthright. There is no cost to participate. We do welcome contributions if you would like to help us support the space, but they aren’t required. This Meetup is offered free of charge. For those who are interested, there will be a $5 Study Group meeting after the meditation, to discuss ways to improve our meditation practices. If you would like more details about our meditation practices, you can find them on the 'Our Meditation Practices' Page or on our website at http://theselfcaresanctuary.com/home-2/conscious-transformation-meditation-group/ Travel again upon your natural path.
