Holiday Hike At McCall Preserve

If you have no plans for the holiday, let's see if enough of us are interested to go to the preserve and see all the spring wildflowers. It's an easy mile each way.

We'll meet at the Gateway Transit Center to arrange carpooling, drive about an hour east of Portland to Mosier. After the hike, those who want to can stop in Hood River for lunch and exploration.

In keeping with the holiday, come prepared with a story to share of someone who has passed on, but rests sweetly in your memory.

Fun day, despite the rain. Glad we missed the 15-car wreck on the way back, though!

It was wonderful. Sorry we missed you at the Gateway Transit Center. Dan and I connected in the south parking lot and when we figured out we'd missed you, we headed out hoping to catch up. It seems we were doomed to miss you completely, because we took the wrong trail, up to the peak. It was very enjoyable, yes even in the rain. However it didn't start raining hard until we got back to the car. FYI. I found a tick walking across my wind sheild on the way home. So do a body check because they were out there.

It turned out to be a very good day. A little wet, a little muddy, and a lot of great conversation. And we were in front of the wreck. Must do this again.

Hope no one was caught-up in the accidents. We weren't too far behind the first batch.

I'm backing out. I briefly got mixed up with carpooling for Ridgefield and put up a message momentarily, but deleted it.

OK I've had only 9 responses to the survey monkey vote for tomorrow and they're pretty evenly split, so I guess we're still on for tomorrow. Please please please if you're going to drop out at the last minute, tell us NOW and not tomorrow when it's too late to cancel.

I'll never earn my true Portlander stripes...gonna skip tomorrow because of the 90% chance of rain forecast.

I'm new to all of this meet up stuff and I may have missed something, but I thought we were going to Ridgefield or are there two different hikes? Either way, I'm game...but still confused.

      May 26, 2013

The rain is likely to be in the evening, and therefore should not affect the hike.

Also, Laura and I will meet everyone there.

The McCall Preserve is very open -- no tree cover. It's on the (usually) drier side of the Gorge, but the forecast for tomorrow is rain. Just thought I'd mention that.

Su, if we take the Max to Gateway can we arrange carpooling there or do we need to arrange it with other hikers prior to getting to Gateway. Thanks.

Leslye and Su, Thank you for the offer of a ride to this hike but the weather forecast for Monday is rainy so I'm going to skip this. Look forward to the Ridgefield hike!

I would love to join you and meet you all on this easy hike however the weather forecast is for showers. My back and legs do not do well in cold/wet environments. I am slowly acclimating to Oregon's weather.

I just joined Meetup in order to join this group in order to go on the hike on Monday morning. I don't have a car but if I carpool with someone I am happy to help pay for gas.

Hello Leslye and Sue - Thanks for the welcome. I live right down Glisan St. (just past 82nd) from Gateway so going over there to meet is no problem. If I could ride with you Leslye from there that would be great.
