This was wonderful! A great opportunity to celebrate one of the best places in Portland, which is so bountiful due to the early foresight of just a few. And we broke the record!

I reluctantly will pass. If we do this again with our usual smallish group I would like to participate, but trust me parking will be impossible this time. I have had to turn around and go home for several events both here and at the Forestry Center because there was no parking. Take the MAX.

For people who aren't willing or able to use other modes of transportation besides driving (public transportation, bicycling, walking, etc.) this certainly would not be a suitable event for them. For those who are willing to take public transportation, etc. it will be a wonderful community celebration! Depends on the individual.

Hi all! Does anayone know if this is hard to find or if parking if dicfficult? I am new to Vancouver, and not oo familiar w/ Portland yet.
Also, what is meant by tree "hugging?" Is that a joke, or do you mean to just appreciate the surroundings?

It's an attempt at breaking the world record - please log in at the link above. It's easy to find - in the same park as the Oregon Zoo right off Hwy 26. Parking will be difficult - the MAX makes a zoo stop so if you can park and ride the MAX - you will be much better off. (Margaret must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed!)

Kristen, I'm attaching a link for the "Events" Section of the Hoyt Arboretum website. As Diana said, and the Arboretum also states, parking will be very, very difficult for this event. It's not recommended to drive and public transportation is highly recommended. As Diana said the MAX would be your best option. And yes, we will literally be hugging trees! :) http://www.hoytarbore...

Do we have to stay for the whole two hours? I work until 2, so I would be late, but I would like to attend! The link is unclear about this..

Hi Megan. Good question. According to Hoyt Arboretum website, the check in will begin around 2:00pm and the "hugging" will begin around 3:00pm. So you should be fine. I'm attaching the link to "events" on the Arboretum website. Hope to see you there! http://www.hoytarbore...

Hi there all you tree huggers! I'm so delighted that so many of you are interested in this event. I think it will be great fun!

I just wanted to make sure that everyone is aware that you need to register for this event with Hoyt Arboretum. I'm attaching a link for the online registration.

Yes. The current World Record is the UK with 702 simultaneous tree huggers. The registration is a way for the Arboretum to accurately keep count of how many people participate.
