The walk along the Columbia is paved. Johnson Creek has a lot of paved walking trails. Thank you to our Organizers and guides. I enjoyed the morning.

Love the pictures, and what a nice day! So much for 90% rain. Sorry I missed it.

It was nice getting out on such a beautiful day and meeting all of you. I hope some of the photographers will be posting photos: I didn't bring my camera because I was expecting rain.

It was a pleasure meeting everyone, and having a beautiful stroll through the tall and colorful trees. I'm so glad I connected with this group, and look forward to many more events! Thanks! Dawn

I love the idea of neighborhood hikes thru winter & ducking into a coffee shop if the weather gets too much. And look how nice it turned out today! Somebody want to pick the neighborhood walk area? Try for something 'central'? What about a weekend later in November?

I'm sorry, but if the trails could be slippery or muddy, I have to bow out. Have mild mobility issues, but rain and mud make it so much worse for me. I guess I may have to wait till next summer to hike or walk.

    November 2, 2013

    • Jama

Pete, that's a great idea. There are also neighborhood parks that are large enough for an hour-long fall/winter walk (Mt. Tabor, Laurelhurst come to mind) but we could get to a nearby coffee shop in a few minutes if the weather turns really bad.

Tualatin Hills Nature Park in Beaverton and can be good for muddy times as it offers offers lengthy paved trails through beautiful natural areas, and also has extensive barkdusted trails through the forest that are well maintained. Dawson Creek park and Rood Bridge park in Hillsboro are other good spots with plenty of natural beauty including lots of waterfowl-bearing streams of ponds, etc even though they are largely human-engineered. I know there are some great parks on the Eastside, but I'll leave that to someone more familiar with them. Anyway, I'll see the group shortly at Hoyt!

Weathers looking good so far. I'd say we're on

Keep an eye on this site. If the weather looks too nasty, I will cancel. I don't mind a little rain, but a downpour is not much fun.

Thanks Marsha. I'm visiting here from NC. We stay inside during a cold rain. LOL. I bought a rain shell with hood for the trip but have nothing for my legs. Looks like it will be cold, rainy and windy on Saturday. I'll keep a a check on it and may come if it looks more like the "liquid sunshine" variety.

Like Carol, just recovering from a cold, and will misss this one. Have fun. Catch you next time.

I'm sorry to cancel but I don't have the proper rain gear to participate.

Wear whatever you would wear to stay dry when hiking outside in the rain.

      November 1, 2013

  • Greg S

I'll be there unless its REALLY rainy and windy, but typical Portland liquid sunshine will not dissuade me.

@Dawn, there is a parking lot right next to the visitor's center (which is on Fairview) and also another small lot at the picnic shelter directly across the street. Some parking is also allowed along Fairview road itself. The visitor center is a single smallish building next to the parking lot so the group should be quite easy to find.

is there an obvious place to park? Is there a specific meeting area?

    November 1, 2013

Sorry, I have to cancel. Just getting over a virus.

Group, what do you want to do? Here is Saturday's forecast: High: 56°, Low: 43°, Rain. Prepare to be outside in cold and wet weather. Wear a rain suit, hat, gloves. CHANGE YOUR RSVP if you won't attend. I for one will not show up because I'm just getting over a virus. Disappointed cause was hoping to explore the Hoyt Arboretum trails. I'll watch the weather forecast for another chance at it.

I am new to the group. The weather report says 90% chance of rain. Would the group still go?

I volunteer at the Hollywood Farmer's Market this Saturday, so will not be able to join you, but I'm looking forward to future hikes. This group sounds perfect for me. I always called myself a "stroll hiker, because I needed to stop and look at things, it was never about the finish line for me.

Would love to but am still exploring the wildlife refuges of the east coast, it's been an awesome road trip with plenty of contemplative hiking.
