"Wind-Down"­ Hike + a Little Mindfulness & Nature Reconnection

"Wind-down" hikes (on Tuesdays and Sundays) are a great way to reduce stress, relax, and reconnect to nature at the end of your hectic day. During each hike, we will stop 1-2 times (15-30 minutes each) for mindfulness, nature-reconnection, movement/qigong, and/or meditative exercises. Mindfulness is an acceptance, a curiosity, and a deep awareness of the present moment, which reduces stress and nurtures joy. Meditation allows the mind to rest and renew itself. Qigong is an ancient Chinese embodied practice for physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Nature-reconnection activities include games and observation through the senses.


On the 8th, I'll be collecting any donations that people would like to offer to the small community of environmentalists, called Touching Earth Sangha. See I recently met them and was very inspired by their way of living.

GETTING THERE: On the street. There is a limit to the parking in this neighborhood. You may walk a few minutes from your parking spot to the trailhead, FYI. But well worth it! You can also CARPOOL, take the #8 bus, or ride up the tram (give yourself 15 minutes to walk to the trailhead from the tram)!

BRING: Water, rain gear, sturdy hiking shoes, a journal, hiking essentials, your own first aid needs, flashlight (just in case), poles (if it's your preference), whistle, snacks, layers of clothing. For your comfort, you may decide to bring something to sit on as we will sometimes do activities on the ground. There is a Plaid Pantry on Gibbs and 10th if you need the ATM, water, or snacks. There is no bathroom at the park.

THIS MEETUP RUNS ON THE GIFT ECONOMY: Let me explain what that means. We've all heard of "Pay it Forward." It's a way of living altruistically, where each of us becomes a giver, and possibly a recipient, of gifts.

These "Wind-down" hikes are a glimpse into deeply meaningful personal work done on the trail, which is indeed the greatest manifestation of my own life's purpose. In these unique sessions, small bite-sized chunks of these teachings are offered as my gift to you and our world, week after week, without expectation.

If you find that these sessions are of value to you and others, and it feels right to support the sessions so they can continue as an offering to your self and others in the community, you may decide to offer a monetary contribution of your choosing. In the gift economy, the roles of the recipient and the provider of goods are often reversed, with the recipient shouldering the responsibility to place a value on the benefit... so, you get to determine the amount that is equivalent to the benefit you've received. Thank you in advance for being part of this re-imagining of economics and relationship.

DOGS: A few well-behaved, socialized dogs may join us. I love dogs too! PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WILL BE BRINGING YOUR DOG.

THE TRAIL: This is a VERY beautiful loop in Marquam Nature Park with a remote feel and beautiful ferns and streams. There are coyotes so keep dogs near.

    I am not sure how far your meet up is. I live in SE on Burnside. Driving stresses me. I am near the Max and bus stops in front of my apt. Directions via public trans would help me to attend. I practice Vispasinna meditation. Thanks
