Spring Equinox Hike at Hall Ranch, Lyons

  • Mar 24, 2013 · 12:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Here are some photos I took from this trail around the same time in 2011: http://contemplativehiking.com/2010/03/30/from-colorado-to-arizona-in-25-minutes/

March 20, 2013 is the vernal (spring) equinox. Traditional celebrations of the vernal equinox would include the removal of negative energy left over from winter, something that may have been a precursor to the American tradition of “spring cleaning.” You throw the windows open, clear out the dust and debris that’s been hiding in the shadows in the long, dark days of winter, and make room for things to start anew. This version of spring cleaning can also be transformed into a psychological exercise that can be done on a hike in nature and be a source of mental renewal and cleansing. Positive, clean energy is breathed in, and negative, toxic energy is breathed out.

We'll stop at the half-way point to do a little mental spring cleaning meditation.

TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Moderate to strenuous hike with the first 2 miles gradually uphill. Total distance about 4 miles roundtrip.

DIRECTIONS to trailhead: Hall Ranch is 1 mile west of Lyons along Highway 7, on the north side of the road.

DONATION: $2 suggested donation to offset the cost of MeetUp organizer fees and gas.

CANCELLATIONS: In case of cancellation of this hike, please check this website for last-minute messages from me. Call or text me if you need to change your RSVP to "no" at the last minute at 303.596.7230.

NOTE: If you're interested in attending my "Your Inner/Outer Wild: Nature and Spirituality" 3 day retreat in Ouray, CO this June, I will be offering $100 off the cost if you fill out registration form and pay by check. I will have forms available and can answer questions. More info at http://ourayretreat.eventbrite.com/

I'll repeat this hike in a couple of weeks. I still want to go tomorrow, though. I want to give people an opportunity to do this!

I too must cancel for tomorrow, since I'm not comfortable getting there from Denver. Patricia and Danh, I won't be riding up with you, but hopefully another time.

Sorry to cacel on the hike tomorrow. Recovering from a surgery and dont want to fight the elements. It sounded like a perfect program and i am very disappointed. Hope to meet you soon and thanks for the carpool offer.

Diane, you can bring snowshoes if you wish. I doubt the snow will be that deep to warrant it, since this trail isn't wooded much. The snow is supposed to stop this afternoon. The challenge will be staying warm. Tomorrow's high is in the low 20s.
