KENOSHA PASS and the Colorado Trail: This is one of the most popular fall color hikes within an hour of Denver. It's so popular, that on weekends one may encounter as many as 100+ cars parked at, around the down the highway of the trailhead! Let's avoid this Disneyland of hiking and go on a Friday afternoon when it may be less crowded.
This trail is located off Hwy. 285, about 45 minutes west of Littleton. But we will be meeting at Wendy's in Aspen Park for detailed directions and carpooling.
The hike is easy to moderate, and starts out immersed in aspens. Gradually, the valley of South Park opens up to the west, and views of aspen-covered hills amazes you in both directions.
This will be an out-and-back, about 3 hours roundtrip, or about 4-5 miles. We'll stop mid-way for 15 minutes of silent contemplation of the view, colors, sounds of autumn.
THIS HIKE ONLY! BRING YOUR DOG if you'd like. I'm going to bring mine :-) Dogs are allowed on leash, I think, on this trail.
WHERE TO MEET: Wendy's, off of Hwy. 285, in Aspen Park (25607 Conifer Road, google it). This will be on the right side of the highway, above you. If you end up in Conifer, you've gone too far. You'll see me in the parking lot because I'll be wearing an orange backpack. We can carpool from there. Let's meet at 1:30 pm at Wendy's and then drive west to Kenosha Pass. I'll wait at least 10 minutes for latecomers. Expect the hike to begin around 2:15 pm.
DONATION: Please consider a $1 donation to offset my MeetUp organizer fees and gas.
NOTE: In case of cancellation, please check this website for last-minute messages from me on the morning of the hike. If you don't see this hike listed, that means it's been canceled. This hike is generally weather-permitting, meaning that if it's snowing, raining, icy or howling like a banshee windy, I will cancel the hike.
