• No Big Deal Deploys to Kubernetes

    Shopkeep

Kubernetes is awesome at running containers at scale, but getting those containers there in the first place has a lot left to be desired. In this talk we’ll look at some options for shipping to Kubernetes and go into detail about how FireHydrant uses GitOps to reliably deploy to multiple environments. As an attendee you can expect to learn how to setup deploys from a Github repository to a Kubernetes cluster. SPEAKER BIO: Bobby Ross is the founder of FireHydrant.io, and also previously worked as a staff software engineer at Namely, and also built things at DigitalOcean. He likes bleeding edge tech and making software that helps teams build better better systems. From deploying Spinnaker, Istio, and Kubernetes, he has cursed at a lack of docs and code spelunked through the code and loves telling the war stories about them. • From Zero to DevOps Superhero: The Container Edition

Eleven Times Square Microsoft Conference Center

Microservices can be hard; understanding container best practices can be hard as those practices are still being discovered. This session aids in minimizing the learning curve with container orchestration, specifically Kubernetes, by bringing DevOps best practices into the mix. This is not another HelloWorld session with quick tips. Instead, you can expect a deep dive into how you can truly go from zero to DevOps superhero by simply selecting container tooling specifically built for simplifying the process. In doing so, you will also learn how these tools can provide better orchestration for cloud services, abstraction and encapsulation for your microservices deployments, and visibility into what runs where and why. You will not only walk away with a deeper understanding of this area, but also some hands-on material to help you get started. AGENDA: 6:15 - 6:30 - Arrive and Networking 6:45 - 7:30 - Container Orchestration Talk 7:30 - 8:00 - Q & A NOTE: You must RSVP with first and last name or you will not be allowed into this event. • Simplifying Kubernetes Deployment with a Service Mesh (Istio and Linkerd)

A service mesh is a configurable infrastructure component that’s aware of the internal state of our cluster. It's architecture provides us with very powerful abstractions which can then be built upon. One of the core features of a service mesh is to simplify traffic management, and this can be leveraged to simplify common deployment actions. We’ll see how Istio and Linkerd can help simplify canary deployments, blue/green deployments and A/B testing. We'll also touch on testing, tracing and dark launches. • From GitOps to an adaptable CI/CD pattern to Kubernetes

GitOps is getting an increasing amount of attention as 'the way to do CI/CD for Kubernetes', but turning the idea into a working implementation is tricky. We'll examine various aspect of GitOps, highlight underlying principles, and describe and demonstrate a tool-agnostic CI/CD pattern for Kubernetes that can be scaled and adapted to different technical and organizational scenarios. AGENDA 6:30 : Pizza and Networking 6:50 : Main Talk FULL DETAILS GitOps is getting an increasing amount of attention as 'the way to do CI/CD for Kubernetes'. Try to figure out an actual arrangement of repositories and automated flows to implement such a pipeline at scale, though, and you'll likely find that there are still many details to be sorted out, gotchas to be puzzled over, and tradeoffs to be made. Andrew will examine various aspect of what is often talked about as GitOps and highlight the underlying principles, as well as how they related to well-known practices that we are already familiar with, such as source and compiled artifacts and infra-as-code. He'll then use those to describe and demonstrate a CI/CD pattern for Kubernetes that can be implemented with different tooling combinations (including a "vanilla GitOps" approach), and talk about how to choose the most appropriate setup for your scenario." • App Security Automation in Continuous Delivery pipelines - DevSecOps FTW

ABSTRACT Scalable and Comprehensive Application Security is an essential requirement, especially for DevOps and rapid-release applications. However, most environments today find it challenging to successfully incorporate a robust and resilient Application Security practice into their Continuous Delivery Pipeline. This session will address different techniques and integration practices that can be used to automate Application Vulnerability Assessments, married with Functional Testing (for Web Services and Single Page Apps) for SAST, DAST and SCA. The session will be replete with demos and case examples with minimal theory coverage only used to support the concept of Application Security Automation. The talk will delve into: • Integrating Functional Test Automation and End-to-End Tests with Selenium (multiple implementations), Robot Framework, Nightwatch.js, Chai.js etc. to perform Security Testing • Performing Automated, Authenticated and Parameterized Vulnerability Assessments against Web Apps and Web Services by leveraging tools like OWASP ZAP and BurpSuite Pro • Leveraging Functional Test Automation to conduct security testing of Microservices and Serverless applications -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= SPEAKER: Abhay Bhargav is the CTO of we45, a focused Application Security company.
