What the heck is Contra Dancing?
Calling all beginners (especially)………!
No complicated dance steps to memorize! No need to bring a partner! A smoke and alcohol free environment! All dances are called! Making mistakes is HALF THE FUN!
Even if we know no one, we are all kindred spirits on the dance floor! Would any of you care to join in this Friday in Milford, stumble around in embarrassment and learn new steps together? A short welcoming session starts at 7:30, where we walk through the various figures common to the dances of the evening; most forms are easy walking steps. Experienced dancers are quite gracious in pairing up & mentoring new dancers throughout the evening. Even if you are not sure about dancing, there’s plenty of space to sit aside and simply enjoy the live music…….
Wear comfortable clothing, bring clean-soled comfy shoes - *no street shoes please* (to keep the floor clean), bring a water bottle for thirst, and most importantly, a big smile!
Traditional New England contra dancing, featuring live music and loads of fun in a family-friendly atmosphere. This form of dance grew from Irish, Scottish, English, French-Canadian and other community dances, and most forms are easy walking steps.
EVENT SCHEDULE: Contra Dance in New England
When you're new to contra you usually dance in whatever shoes you came in, but soon you start to notice that lots of people bring shoes to change into. Why is that? What's the advantage of dance shoes?
