RYA day skipper theory course planned for October - November 2019 at facilities in Hellerup. (Postponed from spring 2019*)

The course is planned to run over three weekends 19/10 - 20/10 then 2/11 - 3/11 and then 16/11 - 17/11. In between each course weekend there is a “free weekend” when participants can do their homework and revise the main learnings form the previous sessions.

The RYA day skipper certificate has a theory component and practical component. At the end of each there is an exam. Usually sailors with some cruising experience take a theory course and exam then do the practical course and exam.

In 2018 we ran the theory course and around 3/4 of the theory participants went on to do the practical course and exam towards the end of the summer on a beneteau. If there is interest then we would anticipate a similar plan for 2019.

A key advantage for internationals Based in Denmark is that the course and the materials of the RYA day skipper are all in English. The three main differences from Danish duelighedsbevis training is the international ICC recognition of RYA day skipper training, the more intense framework over 3 weekends rather than weekly evening sessions and the inclusion of tides in the curriculum.

If you are not so confident in Danish, or have ambitions to continue your sail training outside Denmark, then the quality assured RYA theory training might be a good choice for you.

The course is run by a qualified RYA trainer. Costs are +/-3000kr (2800 for members of local sailing clubs and 3300 for others). The price includes slides from the course and exam fee (excludes almanac, training chart, plotter and dividers). Please register your interest to participate in this meetup. You can send me an email too, but please also register here. Around the middle of the year we will request a deposit.

PS: We postponed this course for a few reasons, but mainly because most of the people who applied would benefit from more practical experience, and we hope that they can find it during this summer before taking the theory course. Contact me if you would like specific advice on this.
