Hi Copenhagen VR AR 360 Enthusiasts
Hope you had a great summer and are ready for an exciting second half of 2015. First it's expected that Samsung is going to release GearVR on full scale in cooperation with Oculus, followed by the holiday release of HTC Vive (http://www.htcvr.com) HMD and Virtuix Omni treadmills (http://www.virtuix.com) in Q4.
At out 6 th meetup we'll immerse ourselves in a promising VR game, VR Journalism and full dome plus other immersive experiences. Program at the bottom.
Bo Benneskov is going to give a pesentation about Bolvërk Games (http://www.bolverkgames.com) upcoming VR game Kittypocalypse. The youtube channel UKRifter recently gave it a very positive review (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngLG--SC-Ow) (might be a spoiler if you come to the meetup) of a non-playable alpha demo. According to UKRifter it's also the only VR game in the "tower defense" game genre (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_defense), which is a subgenre of real-time strategy video games.
In May I attended the 2nd. five day Immersion Experience Symposium (http://ix.sat.qc.ca) in Montreal. There were lots of exiting talks during the day about different immersive experiences and every night there was a full dome experience. I must say a full dome is a whole other story than a planetarium. I'll give a short presentation about full domes and other immersive experiences.
Chris Milk, CEO VRSE (http://vrse.works) is the producer of some of the most highly regarded VR experiences (http://vrse.com) (app) . In March in his TED talk (http://www.ted.com/talks/chris_milk_how_virtual_reality_can_create_the_ultimate_empathy_machine) he presents the idea of how virtual reality could be the ultimate empathy machine. That's exactly the power of this new medium VR pioneer Nonny de la Peña it trying to use through Emblematic Journalism (http://www.emblematicgroup.com/emblematic-immersive-journalism/). They create immersive journalism pieces, which uses virtual reality to put you on scene as news and nonfiction stories unfold.
Mikkel Nielsen (http://www.meetup.com/CPH-VR-AR-360/members/186058411/) has been fortunate to work with Nonny i Los Angeles as lead Unity developer on her highly recognized Project Syria (http://www.immersivejournalism.com/project-syria-premieres-at-the-world-economic-forum/) (Oculus DK1), where they tried to evoke the feeling of being there - on location - in Syria - in the warzone. Mikkel will give a presentation about immersive journalism and demo one of her newer VR experiences.
In general, please let me know if you got any leads on interesting companies or people who could give a presentation or demo about VR, AR or 360 video. And remember we need a location for next Tuesday.
Looking forward to see you again IRL for another enlightening Meetup.
