Our two speakers are very forward thinking CTO's who have transformed technology within their businesses to create developer centric working practices:
Clifton Cunningham (CTO - TES Global)
Clifton is the CTO at TES Global, an educational publisher transforming itself into the largest online social network for teachers. Clifton joined TES Global as CTO with the challenge of launching a new generation of products and turning an educational publisher into an Edtech business.
He was previously the CTO at the MailOnline and helped to transform the entire technology platform, and culture, from a legacy monolithic java stack surrounded by fear into a fast moving microservice based platform built on top of NodeJS and Clojure and built on the foundations of programmer anarchy and freedom from fear.
Clifton still writes code and is transforming the TES Global technology platform from a legacy monolithic .NET platform into one based on microservices across a range of technologies, and has cooked up some novel microservice composition approaches that are available as open source tools.
Sam Lowe (CTO - Matchesfashion.com)
Sam is the CTO of MATCHESFASION.COM, one of the foremost multi-brand luxury fashion eCommerce sites in the world, and also one of the fastest growing eCommerce operations in Europe. Their rapid growth is driven by digital and directly enabled by technology.
Since joining the brand three years ago, Sam has helped transform the digital side of the business which has grown at a huge rate and changed the perception of IT as a supporting function to being the engine powering growth of the business.
Sam's team uses a “symmetrical approach” to developing the internal applications and customer-facing mobile operations and website. The same technologies used to deliver products to customers are also used to deliver services to people inside the business.
